My submission for the :icononewordphoto: contest for the word "Broken" --

The broken headstone reminds me of the broken body, broken family and perhaps even broken dreams that lay beneath the soil. The headstone says "In memory of our father" and "Died in Columbia" but I didn't get the date. I wonder if the children have also been buried by now as well.

Won third place in "Broken Pieces" challenge for =camerawhore in July 09.

Old stones... old bones... they both say so much...

The clasped hands at the top of the headstone indicate husband and wife intend to rejoin each other in the afterlife.

This is another layer of brokenness... the bond of marriage is broken, as shown on the broken stone... but not forever.
