Artist's Comments

This photo was taken for the word challenge "Opposite" for :icononewordphoto:

The verse is John 3:16 -- "...shall have everlasting life."

...the Reaper disagrees.

A hidden opposite, is the fact that most preachers and churches condemn fortune tellers and tarot cards, so it's a double opposite. Death and Life, and Tarot and the Bible.

i think its an excellent piece...however many religous fantatics are extremly upset by anyone who "missues" the bible so be prepared for onslaught (though not by me who thinks this is an excellent contrast).

Yeah, I figured I'd have people upset that I had a tarot card against a bible. I guess what pissed me off the most was that I was being attacked for things that weren't even part of the photo or descript--

i.e. correcting the fact that it wasn't the King James version when I never said it was King James lol.

Ah well. Some people are quite heretical about stuff. Can't get away from it. You'd think on an art site, there'd be free expression, even when it comes to religious themes.

I'm glad you like it! Thanks for the comment!

Stunning piece! The contrast is ironic and clever. Clarity is spot on...and I just keep staring at that card. It's beautiful! Nice shot!

For me this image is about opposites, but also that those belong together. Death and life are opposites but they couldn't exist without each other, and we all have to accept that. Even though it might be hard to face death, as long as we have lived a fulfilled live we will also be able to pass away in peace.
